Very cool. Also if you read the James Bond short story "Octopussy" (which is not vulgar, it's sort-of about an octopus, and nothing to do with the film of the same title), there is a ton of technical detail on gold refining. Also the late, great South African (technically British) adventure writer Wilbur Smith included much on this topic in his earliest novels. Although not so much in his bestseller "Gold," which is more about mining, and was made into a decent film starring Roger Moore, who also starred in "Octopussy"....well, I'm rambling now:)
Thanks, Joshua, for reminding me to re-read Ian Fleming's short stories! He is mostly remembered as the creator of James Bond, but Fleming could write. He also authored one of my wacky childhood favorites, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
Isn't it crazy, Casey? I still could not figure out why the US insists on one-kilo bars. It might be the only example of the US being staunchly pro-metric system!
Well, that was informative. Thanks.

Fascinating!
Switzerland is full of mysteries, Justine.
Thank you for sharing this, I had no idea there was so much physical complexity involved in making gold-related investments.

True!
Very interesting.
We inhabit a quirky little country, Elizabeth.
We do. So many interesting dichotomies.
Fascinating! Thank you.
You are most welcome, John!
